Selection rule: Use shoulder punches as the default for all standard piercing operations. Tool Steel Grade Selection

SKD11 / D2 (HRC 58-62) — General Purpose

Cold work tool steel with 12% chromium, high carbon (1.4-1.6%). Provides excellent wear resistance for mild steel and aluminum stamping up to 500K hits between regrinds. SKH40 / Powder Metallurgy HSS (HRC 67-70)

Gas-atomized powder metallurgy steel with ultra-fine, uniformly distributed carbides (5-8 micrometer).
