Heavy Load + Dowel Hole: Pairing Requirements

This punch category combines heavy load shank reinforcement with cross-drilled dowel hole anti-rotation. The pairing is essential when non-round profiles must withstand thick-plate stamping forces without rotational drift.

Required Pairing Components

Backing plate: Must be hardened to HRC 45-50 minimum. Thickness: at least 1.5x punch head diameter to distribute the concentrated stamping force. Material: S50C pre-hardened or SKD11.

Dowel pin: Hardened to HRC 58-62, h6 tolerance. Material: SUJ2 bearing steel or equivalent. Length: shank diameter + plate thickness + 2mm clearance. Always use new dowel pins when replacing punches - reusing worn pins allows rotational play.

Punch plate bore: H7 tolerance reamed bore for the shank, plus a separate H7 bore for the dowel pin aligned to the punch hole. Both bores must be machined in the same setup (same fixture) to ensure concentricity.

Assembly note: Always install the punch first (press-fit or shoulder seat), then press in the dowel pin. Never attempt to insert the punch with the dowel pin pre-installed - the misalignment will damage both the pin and the bore.
