Backing plate: Must be hardened to HRC 45-50 minimum. Thickness: at least 1.5x punch head diameter to distribute the concentrated stamping force. Material: S50C pre-hardened or SKD11.

Dowel pin: Hardened to HRC 58-62, h6 tolerance. Material: SUJ2 bearing steel or equivalent. Length: shank diameter + plate thickness + 2mm clearance. Always use new dowel pins when replacing punches - reusing worn pins allows rotational play.
