| Purpose | Component | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance Tracking | Cycle Counters (Shot Counters) | Track mold cycles for PM scheduling — cylinder, block, and round types |
| Plate Spacing | Distance Spacers (DS/DSN) | Precision spacing between mold plates with bolt-through assembly |
| Height Adjustment | Adjustment Collars (KACL) | Fine-tune component heights within the mold assembly |
| Mold Identification | Name Plates | Engraved identification for mold tracking and traceability |
| Pin Retention | Ejector Pin Holding Plates (CPHP) | Prevent ejector pins from rotating or backing out during molding |
Why Mold Cycle Counters Matter
Injection mold components have finite fatigue lives. Without accurate cycle tracking, maintenance is either premature (wasting productive time) or late (causing unplanned breakdowns):
- Ejector pins: Typical replacement interval = 500K-2M cycles
- Coil springs: Fatigue life = 1M+ cycles at rated deflection
- Core pins: Wear limit = 200K-1M cycles depending on material and resin
- Cooling O-rings: Replacement interval = 100K-500K cycles
A mechanical cycle counter (non-resettable) provides tamper-proof cycle tracking. Digital counters offer more features but require power and are susceptible to environmental damage. For most production environments, mechanical counters are preferred for their reliability and simplicity.
