Fastener Compatibility in the Mold Base
Mold fasteners work as a system. Mismatched components can cause leaks, plate misalignment, or bolt failure under injection pressure:
- Bolts + Washers: Use SUS416 heat insulation washers between bolt heads and heated plates (mold base >80°C). This prevents heat transfer from the mold to the bolt, which can reduce clamping force through thermal expansion.
- Screw Plugs + Cooling Channels: Thread pitch must match exactly. Using a fine-thread plug in a coarse-thread port will leak coolant under pressure. Always verify thread specification before installation.
- Dowel Pins + Bolt Holes: Dowel pins must be installed before bolts. The dowel pin alignment determines the final plate position — bolts only provide clamping force, not alignment.
