SUS416 is supplied in the annealed condition at approximately HB 183-229 (HRC 8-20). It can be hardened to HRC 40+ through quenching and tempering, but for washer applications the annealed condition provides adequate strength while maintaining its low thermal conductivity advantage.
Can I use standard carbon steel washers instead of SUS416 for heat insulation?+
Standard carbon steel washers provide zero thermal insulation benefit — they have approximately the same thermal conductivity as the bolts and mold plates.
