Tension Links

Rigid steel links with configurable oval holes that precisely control mold opening stroke. Available in four configurations — long stroke, stepped, two oval holes, and two oval holes with land — to match single or multi-stage plate control requirements.

How to Choose the Right Tension Link Type

Select based on the number of plates you need to control and whether you need intermediate stop positions:

How Oval Hole Stroke Control Works

Stroke Calculation

A tension link's stroke is determined by a simple formula: Available Stroke = Oval Hole Length − Bolt Diameter. When the mold opens, the bolt slides within the oval hole. At the end of travel, the bolt contacts the end of the hole, creating a hard mechanical stop. By selecting oval hole lengths in 5 mm increments, engineers can precisely match the link's stroke to their mold design requirement.

Two-Hole Configuration

In a two-oval-hole tension link, the upper hole controls the first plate pair (e.g., runner plate to cavity plate), and the lower hole controls the second pair (cavity plate to core plate). Each hole can have a different length, allowing independent stroke control for each stage. The "with land" variant adds a solid section between holes that creates an intermediate stop — the first stage completes, then the second stage begins only after the intermediate stop is released.

Application Scenarios

🔧

Three-Plate Mold Dual-Stage Stroke Control

Standard three-plate mold where runner parting opens 30mm and main parting opens 80mm. Both stages need independent, repeatable stroke limitation.

Why it fits: Two-oval-hole tension link provides independent stroke control for both stages with a single link per mold side.

Recommended:Two Oval Holes Configuration
📐

Long-Travel Single-Stage Opening

Large mold with 100mm+ plate travel where the full opening distance must be precisely controlled to prevent runner damage.

Why it fits: Long stroke configuration provides up to 120mm of controlled travel in a single stage.

Recommended:Long Stroke Configuration

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between long stroke, stepped, and two-oval-hole tension links?+
Long stroke: single oval hole for maximum travel. Stepped: two holes at different heights for controlling two plate pairs at different strokes. Two oval holes: dual holes for independent two-stage control. Two oval + land: adds intermediate stop between stages.
How does the oval hole length determine the mold opening stroke?+
Available stroke = oval hole length − bolt diameter. A 60mm hole with a 10mm bolt gives 50mm stroke. Configure in 5mm increments.
Can I adjust the stroke after installation?+
Stroke is fixed by hole dimensions. Reduce stroke with a larger bolt or washer. To increase, replace the link with one having a longer oval hole.
What material are MISUMI tension links made from?+
Carbon steel (S45C) with black oxide surface treatment for corrosion resistance and high tensile strength.
