Double Ring Date Mark Pin Sets (Press-Fit)
Month 10/11/12 indication, press-fit installation.
View DetailsAre You on the Right Page?
✅ Double ring is right if:
- You need year AND month in a single compact insert
- Space is limited — cannot fit separate year and month inserts
- You prefer finger rotation (no tools needed for monthly update)
🔄 Consider switching to:
- Only need year OR month marking? → PL-Side Exchange or Plate-Side Exchange
- Need adjustable pin length for different mold depths? → L Adjustable
- Mold temperature >200°C? → Heat-Resistant
How the Double Ring Mechanism Works
The double ring insert consists of two concentric rings press-fit into a single housing:
- Inner ring (Year) — smaller diameter ring, engraved with year numbers (e.g., 24, 25, 26). Rotated annually.
- Outer ring (Month) — larger diameter ring, engraved with month numbers (1–12, with 10/11/12 indicated). Rotated monthly.
Both rings rotate independently using a pointed tool (DTPPN screwdriver or similar). An alignment arrow on the housing indicates the current setting. The press-fit retention prevents accidental rotation during molding cycles.
Minimum cavity diameter: Double ring inserts require a slightly larger counterbore than single-ring types — typically 10 mm minimum vs 8 mm for standard PL-side exchange.
Engineering note: The outer ring encodes the year, the inner ring encodes the month. Rotation is manual — ensure operators are trained on the correct rotation direction. For mechanism details, see our Double Ring Mechanism technical guide.
Application Scenarios

Automotive Year+Month Traceability
Under-hood and safety-critical automotive parts require both production year and month on every piece. The dual-ring mechanism marks complete dates with a single insert — no separate year and month pins needed.
Why it fits: The dual-ring mechanism encodes both year and month in a single Ø8–Ø12 mm insert footprint. Independent ring rotation means the month ring is updated monthly while the year ring changes only annually — reducing total annual changeover operations from 12 (separate pins) to just 1 for the year ring.
Medical Device Full-Date Lot Coding
Regulatory submissions (FDA 510(k), CE MDR) require full date codes for device history records. Double ring inserts provide tamper-evident, permanently molded date codes that survive sterilization.
Why it fits: Molded-in date codes cannot be altered post-production, providing tamper-evident traceability that printed or laser-marked labels cannot guarantee. The date impression depth (0.1–0.3 mm) survives autoclave sterilization (134°C, 18 min) and gamma irradiation without degradation.
