Tool Requirements for Installation
Using the wrong tools is the leading cause of stripped internal hexagons and damaged threads. Always prepare the following equipment:
- Manual Torque Wrench: Crucial to prevent over-tightening brass plugs.
- High-Tensile Hex Keys (Allen Wrench): Must match the plug socket exactly (do not use worn or rounded keys).
- Internal Thread Tap: Used to clean rust, scale, and adhesive residue from old plugs.
- PTFE Thread Seal Tape: High-density industrial grade (0.1mm thickness).
PTFE Tape Wrapping Procedure (Taper Plugs)
For taper plugs (Rc/PT/NPT threads) that rely on thread wedging, sealant is mandatory:
- Clean the plug threads with a dry cloth.
- Hold the plug with the thread pointing toward you.
- Apply the PTFE tape in a **clockwise** direction. Wrapping counter-clockwise causes the tape to bunch up and peel off during installation.
- Wrap the tape tightly **5 to 8 times**, maintaining constant tension.
- Leave the first thread bare to prevent tape from shear-cutting and entering the water circuit, which can clog bubblers or manifolds.
For industrial piping standards, refer to JIS standards for thread sealants.
Tightening Torque Specifications
Over-tightening taper plugs acts as a wedge, generating massive hoop stress that can crack the mold plate steel. Never use impact drivers. Standard torque limits are:

Pressure Testing and Verification
Once installed, always perform a hydrostatic pressure test before mounting the mold in the machine. Connect a water pump, pressurize the circuits to **$1.5 \times$ the maximum operating pressure** (typically $1.0\text{ to } 1.5\text{ MPa}$), and hold for 15 minutes. Check all plug bores for weeping or pressure drops.
